Student group wants gov't to preserve old school

8,Feb-Two student groups have come out in defence of parents involved in the SRJK (C) Damansara relocation issue, stressing the 70-year-old school should be maintained. Malaysian Youth and Student Democratic Movement (Dema) international affairs secretary Jasmine Ng Fui Sung said the group was also not satisfied with the manner in which the education minister has handled the whole situation.

Nation al Students Civilisational Dialogue

The Institute for Policy Research (IKD) with the co-operation of the DEMA under the sponsorship of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF) had organised a National Students Civilisational Dialogue from January 13 through 14, 2001 at Grand Olimpic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. A total of fify (50) students from Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, International Islamic University, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia attended the training.

In 1998, the General Assembly decided to proclaim 2001 as the International Year of Mobilization against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. This observance will help to draw world attention to the objectives of the Conference and to provide a momentum for further political commitment to the elimination of racism and racial discrimination.


"At the end of the Second World War, "we said never again", to genocide, but unfortunately there is genocide again, terrible ethnic cleansing and the rise of Nazi-like movements among youths, which, if not addressed, could be very, very worrying trends for the future."

The Provisional Agenda


Theme 1
Sources, cause, forms and contemporary manifestations of racism, racial discrimination and related intolerance;
Theme 2
Victims of racism, racial discrimination and related intolerance;
Theme 3
Measures of prevention, education and protection aimed at the eradication of racism, racial discrimination and related intolerance at the national, regional and international levels;
Theme 4
Provision for effective remedies, recourses, redress, (compensatory) and other measures at the national, regional and international levels; The bracket in theme 4 indicates that a consensus could not be reached on the word "compensatory".
Theme 5
Strategies to achieve full and effective equality, including international co-operation and enhancement of the United Nations and other international mechanisms in combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia.
