ISA arrests rise to nine
24,April:Another Keadilan Youth leader, Lokman Noor Adam, was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) just after midnight today in Shah Alam, Selangor bringing the total number of reformasi activists detained over the past two weeks to nine.
Sources told malaysiakini Lokman was detained at about 12:15am after a meeting at his party’s operations room.
He was detained as he was going towards a car to leave the place. The sources said eight plainclothes police personnel accosted Lokman and detained him while he was with a group of Keadilan supporters.
When detaining Lokman, police informed him that he was being held under the ISA. Last Friday, Keadilan Youth leader, Dr Badrul Amin Baharom, was detained at his house in Kepong, Selangor at about 12:30am.
Those detained on April 10 and 11 were Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua, party Youth leaders Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor, N Gobalakrishnan, Abdul Ghani Haroon and Saari Sungib, Free Anwar Campaign (Freeanwar.com) webmaster Raja Petra Raja Kamaruddin and social activist cum malaysiakini columnist Hishamuddin Rais.
According to the sources, police are seeking several more reformasi leaders, including Abdul Malek Hussin. In 1998, Lokman, Saari and Malek were also detained under the ISA following the arrest of jailed former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
